SWINGOUT 2010 A RAGING SUCCESS

Swingout 2010 Banquet Attendees at the Carolina Alumni Club

Much, much fun was had by the 75+ attendees of Swingout 2010. If you weren’t able to make it – we missed you! – and you can peruse a small selection of photos at the Swingout 2010 photo gallery.

The biggest change this year was the SAANC member meeting being inserted into a “regular” meeting. Despite some initial hiccups, and some difficulty hearing, I think it went quite well. SAANC president Mike Glover requested feedback from those who were in attendance, and if you want to drop him a line you can do so from the comment form.

The next Swingout is slated for April 8-10, 2011 so mark your calendars now!

Swingout 2009: Oh what a weekend

I must confess, here, that my memories of Swingout are like looking through a camera with a foggy lens… nonetheless, the 60-70 folks who came at various points during the weekend looked healthy, happy and jovial!

Click on the pics to check us out; we’re so classy!

The St. Anthony Association of North Carolina voted to accept the draft bylaws for the organisation as proposed by Gary Stahlberg X’89. The new bylaws update ones which SAANC has been operating under since 1964, and bring the group in line with current state and federal regulations. Also – and this is a big big plus – THERE ARE TERMS. Say, I want to be on the board. My term is 2 years! I can renew if I want, but I’m not on it foreverandeveramen.

I think this is a HUGE step in renewing involvement on a leadership level for SAANC. Additionally, more detail is set out for the commitments that the board members and the officers of the board are signing up for. EIGHT MILLION SNAPS FOR GARY!

Next year’s Swingout weekend is set for April 9, 10 & 11, 2010. Mark your calendars now!

SwingOut lodgings on the cheap

Block room rates for SwingOut are still in the offing, but in the meantime Sis. Kirsten Parriott has this tip:

FYI – I just booked myself a room at the Carolina Inn for Swing Out for only $75 a night at hotwire.com! It’s the only 4-star hotel in Chapel Hill (since they don’t show you the hotel name until after you book). I think that is the best price I’ve ever seen for them and who knows how long  it will be available.

There is, actually, one other four-star hotel in Chapel Hill: the Siena Hotel on Franklin Street near University Mall – but I don’t think they have any offerings on hotwire.com at the moment. And besides, if you are booked in at either the Carolina Inn or the Siena – four-star hotel for a one-star price ain’t bad. Unfortunately this deal is no longer available!

Don’t forget to register for SwingOut 2009 on the event site – even if you’re paying at the door, tell us you’re coming! If you don’t want to register at the event site, please send an email to swingout@stanthonync.org to let the SwingOut chairs get a better head count.

From the Archives: 1980s

At least, it looks like a Swingout... unidentified contact sheet found in the archives.

Finances – 27 June 2008

This week we’ve spent rather a lot of money, I’m sad to say.

  • $1,636.96 – main house renovation loan
  • $311.00 – annex demolition permit
  • $258.55 – apartment bathroom repairs
  • $564.35 – pre-SwingOut dumpster reimbursement to the undergrads

Those last three are actually all to Bro. Adam Daland, who covered those costs and submitted receipts/invoices.  The pre-SwingOut dumpster reimbursement was paid out of funds from the Special Projects account, as that account is used for all SwingOut-related expenses paid by the graduates.

Today I also went through and saved off check images for every check written since 1 April of this year and downloaded the transaction logs for the renovation fund, the Special Projects fund and the undergrad working fund.

Treasury To-Do List:

  • call our property insurance agent to ask what happens when the annex is demolished
  • organize donor history for Stewart Howe
  • roll graduate working fund into undergraduate working fund, as per BoD motion passed at Spring 2008 meeting.

All in all, we’re staying on top of things.  However, if there are particular repairs, renovations, purchases or projects which are near and dear to your heart, please feel free to contact me or any other BoD member about sponsoring those projects!
